How to Import an OST file in Microsoft Outlook

Like PST import/export feature, no in-built function is available in Outlook to import OST file, we have to do it manually.

Before we learn about import an OST file we have to know what is OST files and how does it works?

So OST files are the offline data file of outlook that help to access emails and other data even when the internet connection is slow. When we configure or recreate a program to connect an email account, Microsoft outlook automatically creates an offline folder file that is called as OST file. This OST file keeps a copy of our mailbox and provide us the access to our mail even internet connection is slow or we are not connected to the internet.

If we want to import an alternate OST file then we need to place it in the location, where the OST file stored by default.

Procedure to import an OST file to our Microsoft Outlook Profile is as follows

In window XP – C:\Document and settings\Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft Outlook\Directory

In Window Vista and Window 7-C:\user\username\Local settings\Application Data\Microsoft outlook\Directory

Instead of work on OST file we want work on PST file then we can recover data from OST file into a PST file and then import that PST file into Outlook Profile.
